Relaxation of Coronavirus Restrictions in North Cyprus

The North Cyprus Council of Ministers have announced the relaxation of covid-19 restrictions on 14 May 2020. The translation of these regulations are as follows:

Due to termination of the period specified in the decision E.T (K-I) 588-2020 dated 29.4.2020 regarding the precautionary measures for Corona Virus (COVID-19), the Council of Ministers has taken the following decisions:

1- Education in all schools, classrooms and study centers will be stopped until 30 June 2020; nurseries will open on  June 1, 2020 according to the working conditions that will be determined.

2- All sports, social and cultural activities in schools will be suspended until 30 June 2020.

3- Cancellation of all other mass gatherings such as cinema, theater, concert, festival and rallies until 1 June 2020.

4- Postponement of all sports events until 1 June 2020, after which, the dates will be set for these to take place.

5- As of 17 May 2020 the producer markets to be opened according to the rules that will be collectively determined by the municipalities, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour & Social Security and Ministry of Economy and Energy,  

6- From 18 May 2020:

a- Individual boats in marinas will be allowed to be operated for personal use, apart from collective travel and tour arrangements,

b- Individuals will be able to do sports on their own in parks, walking areas, walking paths and stadiums within the framework of social distancing rules,

c- Mobile sellers will be able to sell products,

d- Historical sites will open only for family and individual visits.

7- Public officials to start working as of 15.5.2020, however, flexibility will be provided to those who are affected by the outbreak and are in the risk group, by their supervisors.

8- Except for the sectors in operation, the following sectors, workplaces and activities will be closed or will not be done until 1June, 2020.

a- Tourism industry, accommodation services, casinos, etc.

b- Entertainment places, cinemas, bars, cafés, beaches, pools, etc.

c- Picnic areas, play areas, children playgrounds, etc.

ç- Gyms, sports activities, stadiums etc.

d- Public transportation etc.

e- Wedding halls etc.

f- Night clubs etc.

g- Bet offices, internet cafes, etc.

h- Tattoo parlours etc.

ı- All kinds of activities that can be done collectively,

i- Home visits,

j- Culture, art and exhibition halls, libraries etc.

9- Barbers [only haircut and care (beard shaving will not be done)], hairdressers and beauty salons will start their services as of May 20, 2020 according to the rules that will be collectively determined by the municipalities, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour and Social Security and Ministry of Economy and Energy.

10- Restaurants, patisseries, cafes, sandwich shops etc., will continue to serve in the form of take away or collection from the said establishment until 20 May 2020 and from this date will start on-site service within the framework of the rules that will be determined by the relevant ministries.

11- The closing hours of the sectors that are in operation are 20:00, until 20 May 2020.

12- All entries of land, sea and air ports to remain closed until 1 June 2020, except for;

  • entry of TRNC citizens,
  • spouse and children of a TRNC citizen, regardless of not being a TRNC citizen, and
  • persons with other nationalities who are in exceptional circumstances, only with the decisions of the Council of Ministers.

13- Transportation of passengers by ships traveling to the TRNC are banned except for essential services; and application of the Council of Ministers’ decision regarding the ships travelling to our country to transport goods and lorries during this time being bound by the conditions specified in article 6 of the preventative measures decision E.T (K-I) 445-2020 dated March 15 2020 taken by the Council of Ministers, are extended under the same conditions until 1 June 2020.
